A nameless stall, a mother-in-law's recipe
A nameless, signless com-tam stall on the Hoang Sa canal bank, known as Mr Le "Troc's" com tam. Nearly 40 years, one recipe — his mother-in-law's — sold each morning till it's gone.
The nameless com-tam stall
Nearly 40 years selling com tam without a name or sign — customers just call it by the man who sells it: Mr Le "Troc's" com tam.
Mr Le "Troc" and his wife's family craft
Mr Le "Troc" runs the stove; he learned the cooking from his mother-in-law — the morning com tam has kept the same taste for decades.
Borrowing the pub sidewalk each morning
The stall has no shopfront of its own — each morning Mr Le rents the sidewalk of the Nam Lua pub at 113 Hoang Sa, rolling out his cart till about 10.
Six to ten, gone when it's gone
Morning only: from 6am till the rice runs out around 10. Regulars sit on plastic stools along the Hoang Sa canal for breakfast — a piece of sidewalk Saigon, intact.
Prices: flat-rate 20k per the owner's 2018 quote; Saigon Times 2023 noted "from 23,000₫". Reference prices — verify at the stall.
